INSECTFOOD OÜ is dedicated to harnessing the power of modern technology and nature itself to help feed and care for Estonia and the world. We do so by developing high-tech, automated solutions rooted in nature to address some of the planet’s most pressing challenges.

  The evidence is clear: our planet faces an array of complex existential challenges that will only become more acute in the years ahead as we add another two billion people – for a total of 9.5 billion – by 2050. We need to recycle bio waste using nature like technologies. To feed and care for the planet – its people, animals, plants, forests, land, and oceans – tomorrow, we need better, smarter, and more innovative solutions today. These solutions must harness the power of the world’s most advanced technologies and greatest minds. They must be driven by sound scientific principles rooted in nature itself. And they must be scalable and durable for use around the world.

ust as nature itself is sophisticated yet simple, so are the solutions to many of our most critical challenges. INSECTFOOD OÜ seeks to be at the forefront of providing a sophisticated yet simple solution to help several industries address these challenges by harnessing one of nature’s most voracious, amazing creatures: the Black Soldier Fly and its larvae.

  It is not just what we eat, but how we raise our food. How we treat the soil. How we grow our crops. What and how we feed and raise our livestock, fish and other animals. How we care for these animals, generally and when they are sick. How we process and transport our food. How we reduce food waste – we throw away over one third of all the food we create, generating over 1.3 billion tons of organic waste each year. How we develop vaccines and antibiotics for humans and animals that are not prone to resistance to prevent epidemics. And so much more.

  The Black Soldier Fly and its larvae can play a significant role in addressing these challenges, which impact everyone, everywhere. Simply put, the Black Soldier Fly and its larvae can be used as:

  • Converting organic waste into a product without carbon footprint.
  • Sustainable sources of protein, lipids (fat), amino acids and other nutrients for livestock, animal feed, aquaculture, pet feed, and more;
  • An excellent organic fertilizer for home or industrial use;
  • A key component to developing safe, efficacious pharmaceuticals;
  • Wine and brewers’ industry;
  • A source of biopolymers for industrial use;
  • An ingredient in better, cleaner, and safer cosmetics.

INSECTFOOD OÜ aims to be a world-class company specializing in the production of high-quality, sustainable organic insect protein meal using the Black Soldier Fly and its larvae. Our state-of-the-art technology and processes allow us to process large volumes of organic byproducts from a variety of sources, broken into three categories:

  1. Fruits and vegetables, spent grains, distillers’ grains, corn starch suspension, dairy byproducts, sugar beets, rice, wheat bran, soy pulp (okara), soybean husks, cocoa, and press cakes. Milled fodder also stabilizes the nutrient environment.
  1. Any organic waste generated by stores, restaurants, hotels, other large institutions, and households.
  1. Manure from pigs, cows, chicken and other livestock.

  Based on our research and development, INSECTFOOD OÜ is demonstrating:

  • That our approach can generate over 3 tons per square meter of raw materials (200 pounds per square foot)
  • Large scale farming of insects with a known, short lifecycle.
  • Compliance with the U.S. FDA’s HACCP standards to ensure strict controls and adherence to world-class demands for food safety.
  • We have 50 years of development history. That we can leverage and improve upon successful technology and processes.

  The team and ideas at INSECTFOOD OÜ are inspired in modern environmental studies for ecosystem balance.

  “There is an inextricable interrelation of natural processes and the circulation of substances in ecosystems that consist of a community of plants, soils, and animals, inextricably linked with human life and its activities.”

 INSECTFOOD OÜ uses technology, processes, and solutions to harness solid organic waste into feed source and return it to nature, fertilizer, and other products – where it can be regenerated.

  INSECTFOOD OÜ can share the knowledge of organic waste recycling organizations to help them to improve the process.
